Common Core Math-Subtract by counting upVia Eric Erickson, this is what his 9 year old is having to deal with. It’s so convoluted that it took me an absurd amount of time to figure out the logic behind it. This is no way less complicated than subtraction.

UPDATE:An astute reader points out, “To go from 40 to 100, you still need to subtract 40 from 100 to figure out that you need to add 60.” Exactly. So, what’s the point of this exercise other than to frustrate 9 year olds and turn them completely off of math and science?I can’t even figure out what’s happening here this is such bullshit
